There's something I need to get off my chest.  I've taken enough insulting for today.   Almost every day on British TV (and I don't watch that much of it either) I hear something mean about Americans, but today takes the cake.  One thing I look forward to in the week is to come home on Fridays and know that there will be good TV on if I want to watch TV.  There's always Friends and Frazier on Channel 4, the good American shows I like to watch, but I thought that today I'd give some of the new shows on Channel 1 a chance.  Have I Got News for You, a news based game show, has been one of my favorite shows for a few years now, but tonight I was put off when the host Angus Deayton called American's "fat".  OK, I can handle that.  I've heard that one before, and because I like the show, I forgive him.  But then on the next show I watched called Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Johnny Lydon call Americans "dumb" and "stupid" and then Jonathan Ross (who I used to really like!) call Americans fat... well, if "I really like Americans, they make us feel thin..." is saying "fat" which I think it is.  I'm off to sell my PIL albums at Polar Bear today.

I wonder if this would bother me as much if I wasn't as culturally isolated, but I bet it would.  I need to hear nice things about Americans here sometimes, but I never do.  If I did it might be more of a joke.  Where's the antithesis?  Even when I go out it's the same.  At every job I've had here there's always one asshole who makes comments to me about were I'm from.  It's usually just the one person, but at my last job it was about three people.  But I've got lots of friends from that job as well to make up for this.

I know there will be some people who say that I don't have a sense of humor because I don't find this funny (because people have said it), but I've never found calling anybody fat or stupid funny.  If that's humor, then it's extremely low-brow, and in poor taste.  It doesn't require any imagination or creativity to come up with it, nor to process.  So I can't understand why some of my favorite comedians and shows are resorting to lame insults to get laughs.  I'm not laughing.
