Nigel and I went to see Amelie, the new Jeunet film.  Who would have thought he'd go back to artsy French films after making Alien 4.  Not me.  Amelie was so cute that it made Nigel and I wonder why it was rated 15, until we realized that there were sex scenes, dildos, and a stripper.  It's easy to forget being that it is so cute.  Too cute, that's my main complaint.

Going to the cinema in Leeds is a completely different experience to the cinema in Austin.  For a long time we were the only people in the theatre.  You can't sneak in to see other previews while you wait for your movie to start because everybody will see you.  I've never tried here anyway.  When you're the only person in the cinema it's pretty noticeable I imagine.   The other main difference is as the snack bar. They ask you if you want your popcorn "sweet" or "salty",  I've never had the "sweet" popcorn, and I'm not going to pay movie popcorn price to find out I don't like it.   There's also a Baskin Robbins in the cinema that only has five flavors.  I wonder if they realize they usually have 31 flavors.  They have a giant "31" in the logo still, so they must.  At least now the cinemas have stadium seating and surround sound.  When I saw Go at the ABC cinema in Leeds city centre they just had a speaker in the front, and seats that looked like they were from an old high school auditorium.  Wooden and sticky.  They've now closed that theatre thank goodness, I'm sure after putting lots of people off of cinema.  Now only to get some decent movies up here please.
