I took my friend John to the "Elvis Night" at a club in town this evening.  I had no idea what to expect, but I know that John needed to go with me as he's recently skydived as Elvis.  What we found when we got there was a sight to behold.  There was a five foot tall woman crooning Elvis songs with a thick East Yorkshire accent (above), and they were playing a documentary on El Vez, the Mexican Elvis (what we really came to see) through the audio system usually reserved for the thumping basslines of any respectable Leeds club.  It didn't work.  I think we were the only ones there that really came to see the documentary.  Luckily the important parts were subtitled.  Afterwards they had an Elvis impersonator who recently won Stars in their Eyes (Britain's 'Star Search', but it's all impressions) for doing just that.  He was pretty good too, but the best part was when this crazy staggering old man wandered up to Elvis with the encouragement of his crazy drunken old friend.  "That's your boyfriend" John said.  Damn!  But to save him this scantily dressed lass ran up and sat in Elvis's lap (before the old man could?).

John is the face of Halifax Sharedealing, where I used to work.  Here's him before:
