I didn't know what Paris would be like. One thing that I did know was that it wasn't the 'city of love'. The last two people I know who went there ended breaking up. My old mate Mary Potts ended her relationship with her english fiancé Simon shortly after their trip, and what I knew about Paris was what she told me. So luckily I didn't have unrealistic expectations of romance. Really I didn't know what to expect... mimes?  People wearing berets, wearing striped sweaters and carrying baguettes?  No.  I wasn't as bad as the neighbor's mom in Better Off Dead, nor as bad as the family in National Lampoon's European Vacation.  Thank you.

It was cool of Nigel to book tickets to Paris on the Eurostar for my birthday. I did believe Paris would be a homogeneous busy city, but it wasn't. It was completely different from London, and I love it.
